Thanks to all who responded - that was relatively painless once i booted
all the way so LMF knew about my licenses for LSM (though I suppose i could
have just run the init script for that).

The easy answer was to remove all of the plexes and the disk from LSM and
then
just volrootmir -a dsk0 and it was all good. For the curious, i'm including
the instructions that Keith Schoepflin from HP sent for how to remove the
plexes etc.

The best thing to do is to completely remove the disk from rootdg and
LSM. Then you can disk label the new disk (has to match the old label
prior to being put inot LSM). Then use volrootmir to remirror back into
LSM and rootdg. You can do the following to get the disk out of LSM.
You will need to remove each partition (i.e root, swap, usr, and any
other used partition on the disk). Remember to use the -a option on
volrootmir so that you mirror all partions on the disk.

Good luck.

Removing plexs from mirrored volumes:
1. volplex [-o rm] dis plexname # this will remove the plex from
the volume and get rid of all the subdisks. The disk will still be in
the diskgroup.
a. If you don't use the -o option then you will need to do the
following to get rid of the subdisk and plex:
voledit -r rm plex
2. voldg rmdisk diskname # this will remove the
disk from the diskgroup.
3. voldisk rm diskname # this will remove the disk from
LSM.
