        Thanks to Pat O'Brien for finding the most likely solution to this,
and to the others who replied.

        This may be happening because the hardware delivery kit was not
installed under 4.0f. Pat says:

If you have messages like this in the /usr/adm/messages file from bootup, I
would say no it has not.
