Trying to have a users mailbox file live somewhere else than /var /spool/mail ... Trying to use a softlink ... Any ideas?

Hi ,

I am interested in any suggestions that you may have ...

I am trying to setup a specific user account so that all inbound mail for
that account gets delivered to that user's mailbox file located on a
filesystem having plenty of free space. I thought that this would be easy
to accomplish.

I tried the following steps:

1) I created the user account and send mail to it.

2) I notice that mail was delivered to the user's mailbox in
/var/spool/mail

3) I tarred the user's mailbox file in /var/spool/mail and extracted it
in the user's home directory.

4) I checked that the mailbox had the same uid and gid (mail) as it
originally had in /var/spool/mail.

5) I created a softlink to that file in the directory /var/spool/mail and
checked the softlink with ls -l

6) I sent a new test message to the user.

I expected the new mail to be delivered to the mailbox via the softlink, but
when I access the user account, I only see the test messages which were sent
before the change in location. Any ideas on why this does not work?

Thanks!
