SUMMARY: How To Swap Disks

Good Afternoon:

Thanks for the great information from
Dr. Blinn, Simon Millard, Selden Ball Jr, and Mike Jackson.
Since this disk is not part of SWXCR, and the 9G disk will be on the exact
same slot, it should be recognized by the system after a reboot.

>From Dr. Blinn:
If you just remove the old RZ28 and insert the RZ1xx in the same slot
in the storage shelf, then when you reboot, it should just have the
same ID as the disk you removed. For instance, if you removed the
disk known as "rz5", then the new disk should be "rz5". All of the
messiness comes in V5.x. This assumes, of course, that the disks
are connected to a simple SCSI interface, not to some kind of RAID
card; if they are connected to, say, a SWXCR, then you will need to
do some RAID controller maintenance operations.

My original posting was:
I will swap a 2GB RZ28 device with a 9GB RZ1 disk. The disk is a JBOD.
Does the Alpha 2100 recognize the 9GB drive automatically after reboot?
If it doesn't, what should I do to make the Alpha recognize the change
and then I can label it? The RZ1 is pre-formatted. The disk is a data
disk.

Have a nice day.

Warren
