Hi everyone,

I am looking at trying to connect 2 SunFire 280 servers to a HP EMA 12000
Storage Array. We can not switch to straight HP servers due to an
application that in running on Sun/Solaris.

I have a couple of questions that maybe some other SysAdmins may have
encountered in connecting different platforms/hardware with HP storage
arrays.

What we would like to have is the sun box contain a dual Fiber Channel(FC)
adapter connected to two different HP fiber channel hubs. This will provide
the failover availability in case one FC connection is lost, the other will
automatically switch over so connect to the data is never lost.

So my questions are:

1. What kind of failover services are provided by HP's Open system Raid
Solution Support, that we can download from the website? Is it fully
failover functional or do we have to buy some other piece?
>From what I saw on HPs website, it is suppose to let you connect the HP EMA
12000 to any major platform, SUN, HP, IBM, SGI etc.

2. Do we need to use HP's pci FC adapters or can we use just straight SUN
pci FC adapters and still have the failover capability that we need?

3. Do we need to use HP's Secure Path for SUN Solaris to make the connection
and have failover capability or?

4. Will Solaris8/Solaris9 have the FC failover connection to the EMA 12000
organically, or do we need to purchase some other 3rd party product via,
sun, vertias, etc.?

Any feedback, thoughts and shared experiences from anyone that has connected
3rd party platforms to the HP storage array is appreciated.
