Which system/solution to choose ....

Hello Admin wizards,

our department is going to move in 24 months from one location to another.
Although this is far future for the IT planning, I need to make some basic
decisions within the next two months.
I wanted to ask the list for recommendations in this case.

Situation:
We are a university department with approx. 60 staff members and 500
students. We currently have a M$-PC on every desk plus a user room for the
students with 20 M$-PCs.
Serversided we run a Compaq Tru64 cluster (2xAlpha1000 w/ HSZ40 strage
shelf) and one Alpha 1000 as a mirror. The servers run fileservice (samba),
Webservice (Apache), Print- and ftp - service, internal mailing lists and
so on.

We have the opportunity to get a complete set of new equipment when moving.
So - should we better move to a thinClient/AppServer system (most of our
desks run ordinary office packets) or stick to a pc/leanServer system? And
what would be the server system of _your_ choice in these circumstances?

Thanks for your brainware -

YS, CW
