Thanks for your replies. Special thanks to Pat O'Brien, Denise McCracken,
Henk Kalle and Reto Kisselef.

I did the upgrade of my test machine from 5.0A to V5.1A and I encountered
one problem at the end of it : the rebuild of the kernel failed wit hte
following message : "Make: Don't know how to make kern/lockinfo.c" at the
end of the upgrade process.

To avoid this problem, Reto Kisseleff (Hewlett-Packard Schweiz) gave me the
following advice :

We strongly recommend that you install on your V5.0A prod system first
patchkit 3 which cdfs patch is included. This will prevent this issue of
changing dates on files when you install from CD-Rom.

As it was too late for my test machine, we found a workaround on this list :

Check in /sys/<HOSTNAME> and /sys/kern for files with dates of 1 Jan 1970.
If there, touch them with a current date and retry the doconfig.

I did that and I was able to rebuild the kernel.

Subject: Upgrade from Tru64 5.0 A to Tru64 V5.1 A

Dear managers,

I need to upgrade from V5.0 A to V5.1 A on a DEC Alpha 4100 (test machine).

As I am not really an experienced system manager, can you tell me if there
are things I need to know which are maybe not in the "Installation guide,
Update chapter" ?

Can you suggest me the best approach for this upgrade ?
