SUMMARY: syslogd stops collecting info

Received 2 replies to this question, good ideas. I had
gone thru checking some of them, and followed up on
suggestions i had not done, but none seemed to be root
of problem.
Reboot cured the problem, but dont know what was
causing it to begin with (not a good feeling!).

_Thanks All.

Hi. Do you have things logging to it from outside?
If I remember
correctly, this once happened to us when we had a
printer attempting to
log to a 4.0G machine's syslog, and the printer did
not have a valid
dns
reverse lookup for its host name. The log entry did
not appear (making
it
hard to track down) and syslog stopped logging
anything until it was
restarted. The printer may not have complained
either.

check the /var/adm/syslog file system full
check that the filesystem hasn't run out of inodes
(gazillions of
teenie files)
check that log files are not excessively large
check EVM if you have it enabled (man page reference
to it)
if you haven't rebooted the system, try this as it may
clean up
something hard to identify
