Original Question(s) -

Two Questions in regards to networking on V5.x -

*I know that one of the Tru64/TruCluster version allows for
Gigabit instead of Memory Channel as the cluster interconnect. Also for your primary network interface. What V5.x supports Gibabit?
*Does any V5.x support Ether Channeling?

Response(s) -

* GigaBit ehternet has always been supported on 5.1 (including NetRAIN for redundancy). What is not support is LAG (Link Aggregation) in 5.1 , that's a feature in 5.1A and can't be patched/backported to 5.1 .
* Yes you can use the following Gigabit Ethernet Adapters for your cluster:
        1. DEGPA-TA (Gigabit Cooper Cable, RJ45 Traditional Connectors).
        2. DEGPA-SA (Gigabit Fiber Optic Cable, SC Connector).

I you will have Oracle9i RAC, I strongly recommend you Memory Channel 2 Interconnect. LAN Interconnect is better for thouse environments in which your going to have an Operating System Database Failover.
* 5.1A PK#1 (minimum) supports Gigabit Ethernet as a cluster interconnect. the LAN Interconnect Manual would probably be helpful for you.

What is ethernet channeling? Do you mean "trunking" or adding the bandwidth of two adapters together and if one fails the bandwidth will fall back to that of the surviving card. This capability is available also in V5.1A but is not (and supposedly will not be supported as a cluster interconnect. In Tru64 its called "Link aggregation". References below:

        http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51A_HTML/ARH8WDTE/TITLE.HTM (Section 1.4)

        http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51A_HTML/ARH9CCTE/TITLE.HTM (Section 2.1.1.3)

        http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51A_HTML/MAN/MAN8/0208____.HTM

* 4.0F can handle gigabit, 5.1 PK1 is needed for trunking. Trunking is a protocol, Etherchannel is a Cisco label for their trunking technology.

* V5.1 supports gigabit, but you need 5.1A to use it as a cluster interconnect. Ether Channeling - This is V5.1A with patches, using the lag device ("link aggregation").

* Version 5.1a has the best features where networking is concerned.
Link Aggregation - multiple adapters with one address, increased bandwidth
        (same as channeling I believe)
        Gigabit as primary, yes
        Gigabit cluster interconnect, yes

* 5.1a does all that you ask about. In fact, you can only use network connections as cluster interconnects in 5.1a and later (in the 5.X stream). 5.1a is the first version to support trunking, or channeling (aggregation of network interfaces for the purposes of data throughput). I don't know when the gigabit cards were first supported, but given the other items I mentioned, that is moot.

Thank you folks, your help was greatly appreciated!

Rgds,
