SUMMARY: Fatal Error: Cannot map library

The basic original question was "why are my identical machines different?".
The answer is that I was messing around with some system parameters that I
shouldn't have been. The result was that on the machines with problems way
too little "vmemory" was available (the last line in "ulimit -a").

I undid my changes is /etc/sysconfigtab and rebooted: all is well.

Special thanks to Joe Mario of HP/Compaq/DEC back in New Hampshire.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

I am getting the error

125237:./sander: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: Cannot map library ./sander

(where "sander" is the name of a fortran executable) on 5 of my 9 es40's.
(Tru64 5.1 patch kit 5)

I can sucessfully execute "sander" on the others. I can build "sander"
on one of the problem machines and then FTP it to one of the healthy ones
and run it sucessfully there. Other programs from the same suite run
OK on all the machines. This is a program that has been running fine
for several years.

The only "change" recently was the installation of patch kit 5 on all the
machines. However, I checked the installed patches with "dupatch" and all
of the machines appear the same. I have reduced things as far as i can:
same account/.cshrc on each machine, recompile with NO optimization, same
patches, rebooted etc. but still an exectable runs on some hosts and
not on others. Bummer.

Has anybody seen anything like this?

thanks,
jim
