NFS oddity

Plain install of 5.1a. NFS Mounts using tcp onto a Solaris NFS server.
Anywhere in the NFS mount, I can browse and read files no problem. Whenever
I run ls -la, it takes minutes per file entry to show the output, sometimes
just failing completely without error.

Network duplexity and speed are correct and have been double checked.

Any ideas what's up?
