NFS2 server not responding still trying

Error message (with machine name removed):
    NFS2 server <my local machine> not responding still trying

I've tried to set up automounting, but when I cd to the mount directory
(/net), this shows and hangs the terminal. Oddly, I am now seeing it
when I do ssh-keygen. The ssh-keygen binary is local and the target
directory is also local. The ssh-keygen never completes. At least I
can ^c it.

Hardware: AlphaStation 255 4/232 system
Software: Digital UNIX V4.0E (Rev. 1091)
