[Q] 4.0G NFS thread hang issue

Dear all,

we have recently been experiencing NFS hangs under 4.0G on a DS20E
both with the latest and greatest patches and with the previous lot.

The situation is described quite easily: the system simply stops
serving all NFS requests. The NFS daemons are all running but cannot
be stopped (ie. /sbin/init.d/nfs stop does nothing and neither does
kill -9 on the daemons).

It appears that one of the threads is sitting there and holding up the
whole request queue (at least this is what is seen via ps).

The clients are all Tru64 Unix 4.0F boxes or Linux boxes (2.2.21 or
2.4.18 kernels) and there are no error messages reported before the
hang neither on clients nor servers.

The only solution so far seems to be a reboot of the system. It
should be noted that all other services continue operating normally.

Any suggestions welcome,

Thanks,

Arrigo
