Hi managers,

yesterday evening after booting my alpha into v4.0f, patchkit ?? and after
successfull login into CDE the system unexpectedly went down. The last picture
of the screen I saw was something like "panic". Because the srm console was
setup to do automatic reboot, I had to do push the reset button to halt the
system at the srm prompt. To see what is happening I booted into single user
mode. The system came up. Since every filesystem uses advfs I verified the root
domain "rootdmn" - ok. Then I tried to verify the usr domain "usrdmn" and after
reading some bytes from the disk the system crashes with the following message:

panic (cpu 0): ftx_bfmeta_rec_redo: got bmt page N1 instead of N2
 N1 = 56321700, N2 = 76
syncinq disks... done

DUMP: No primary swap, no explicit dumpdev.
Nowhere to put header, giving up.

The message "DUMP: ..." seems to come from the single user mode (swap isn't
configured at this stage). The panic message comes from the advfs code. I'm
pretty sure the disk are ok - I verified the other domains - all ok. And these
use othr parts of the same disk. Even a dd of the whole disk revealed no errors.

Since I remeber a similar problem at onother site that was caused by advfs bugs
I suppose I have to patch the system. And thats the problem - I can't patch the
system - /usr is missing because this is the failing file system. Therefore I
don't have the information which patchkit is installed! The information is held
in /usr/.smdb. - right! What should I do to bring this system back to life.

I do have other alphas available with v4.0f.

Is it possible to use the advfs part of the root file system (/sbin/advfs,
kernel and the like from a v4.0f, pk6) put this on the failing system and boot
this to do the patch?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
