We have been on samba 2.0.5 for a few years ( on T64 4.0F ) but have had to
upgrade due to going to Tru64 5.1A
We used the 2.2.3 OSF5.1 binary distro . This worked fine for a few days but
then , as a user re-opened a MS Word Doc
the system said no way. He was using Windows 2000 . A user on W95 had no
problem.The same happened with Excel files.
A .csv or text file could be opened using Notepad or Wordpad without
incident.
If anybody has experienced the same sort of problem , it seems to goes away
with the latest 2.2.5 release . There is no binary distribution for OSF yet
but the ./configure , make etc process was fairly painless.
