sftp on 5.1a box

Dear managers,

I'm trying to solve a problem with getting sftp to work. After my password
is accepted, I got the error message and the session is closed:

# sftp user@xxx
Connecting to xxx...
user@xxx's password:
Connection to xxx closed by remote host.
Received message too long 1097032559

I found in newsgroups it should be a well known problem: this behavior is
expected when in shell login/profile/cshrc files are called utilities
which produce too long output. So I have commented out all these
utilities. But the problem does not disappear. I think the problem remains
with the sia-modules, which produce following messages:

Last successful login for user: Thu Sep 5 09:27:41 CEST 2002 from yyy
Last unsuccessful login for user: Thu Sep 5 09:40:36 CEST 2002 from yyy

Please, can somebody confirm this theory and give me the possible solution
(i.e. patch for sftp sources or the way to disable these messages) ?

OpenSSH-3.4p1
Tru64Unix 5.1a pk#2, enhanced security, Compaq C V6.4-014

Thanks in advance,

David Komanek
