SUMMARY RE: Network problems

Haven't really got to the bottom of this one yet, but Jim Belonis pointed
us in the right direction and from there we have established that the
Nortel phone switch is configured incorrectly and acting as a TCP/IP
router. traceroute command showed us that network packets were
intermitantly going to the Nortel switch, which should not be happening.
There are no actual IP address conflicts, but the switch is causing the
network to report as such. The box is disconnected from the network
until we can figure out what is going on.

We are presently experiencing problems when connecting a new device to
our network. We know the unit that is causing the problems (It's a
Nortel phone system), but can't idenitify the fault. When pinging
devices on the same sub-net we are seeing errors as follows. Can anyone
tell me what the error means ?

64 bytes from 129.9.1.170: icmp_seq=9 ttl=57 time=54 ms (DUP!)
