Booting a XP1000/EV6 off an IDE-Disk

Hi managers,

I got my hands on a XP1000/EV6 (500MHz) system. In the past the system ran NT4.0
(Workstation). The console was set to AlphaBIOS. I switched the system to
SRM-Console, did an upgrade of the firmware to the latest version and tried to
install Tru64UNIX V5.1. The system has 256MBytes of RAM and a ATAPI-CDROM
(COMPAQ CD-something) and a IBM-IDE 40GB drive. The console sees all devices
perfectly.

After booting the system from the CD I installed Tru64UNIX to the IDE-drive.
Everything went ok. No errors, nothing to mention. I decided to repartion the
IDE-drive after the installation kernel has been booted off the CD by exiting
the installation procedure. At no time I got an error.
So, I assumed booting off the IDE-Drive would work ok!

But after ending the installation and rebooting (yes, I've set up the console
variables bootdef_dev to the correct values) the kernel boots and panics after
the initial boot message with:

panic (cpu 0): init_rootdev: boot device translation failed

I guess, booting off an IDE-drive isn't supported on XP1000 under V5.1?

Hope, I'm wrong.

TIA
