Problem installing CRSP software

Hello all;

Is anyone on the Tru64 managers list knowledgable about installing CRSP
software from the University of Chicago? I have been grappling with
installing the daily stock index data and related utilities on an
AlphaServer 8200 with Tru64 Unix 5.1a for weeks with no success at all.

The installation documentation that came with CRSP sets new standards for
lack of clarity and incompleteness. I have even had a quality assurance
representative from CRSP try to install the software on our system and he
says it is working and he is able to email me output from it.

When I try to run it, all I get is

./crsp_setup
dstkprint
dstkprint: Command not found.
/usr/local/crsp/accbin/ts_print ts_samp1.txt
Unable to find error message directory, check environment variable CRSP_LIBError setting environment directories called by crsp_init
-1|CRSP_ERROR| Unable to open CRSP error message file: crsp_error_msg.dat with errno 2, msgnum 1542, errnum 999 No such file or directory
-1|CRSP_ERROR| Errprintf unable to find message#: 1542 No such file or directory
-1|CRSP_ERROR| Errprintf unable to find message#: 1542, exiting...

by using a csh setup script I wrote, but I also get exactly the same thing
when I enter into the ksh shell and run the setup script that CRSP's
installation procedure created.

I have read all through the documentation and I cannot find a word about
this CRSP_LIBError environment variable that is referenced in the error
output. The tech people at CRSP suggest that there's a permissions
problem, but I explicitly set the entire crsp directory to 755, yet I get
only the error message cited above using all the canned utilities that
come from CRSP. I have also installed the software from scratch at least
three times, to no avail.

In addition, I have tried to run the CRSP software from both the superuser
account and a regular user account. The same results happen each time and
in different shell environments. Why is it that the quality assurance
person from CRSP can run the sofware on our system, but I cannot?

Any suggestions on how to address this problem will be greatly
appreciated.
