SUMMARY: 4.0g on DS20e with serial console. (fwd)

Thanks everybody for your replies. Everybody suggested using

>>> set console serial
>>> init

which I already did. Now for testing, I've hooked a video monitor and
keyboard/mouse on the box and did a "set console graphics" and
4.0g still does not boot.

I think there's some corrupted partition table or something similar,
because I've tried to reinstall 4.0g in graphics mode now and the
partition tool shows me weird partition tables.

So thanks again everybody for your replies. I'm currently reformatting
the second disk and re-installating in graphics mode and then I'll make
another attempt in serial console mode.

Tom

hi tom -

have you tried

>>> set console serial

before booting ?

i had a similar problem with another machine and even after doing "set
console serial" it still insisted in trying to use a non-existent
graphics console. i think if it detects a keyboard plugged in then it
assumes it has graphics and will default to that no matter what you try
to tell it...

cheers,

 john
