Thanks to Dr Thomas Blinn who explained that RIS has several
dependencies on Tru64-specific items, and that 'no' is the
best answer to my question:
The underlying functionality for "RIS" is pretty basic UNIX stuff,
but needless to say, we (formerly Compaq, now HP) do NOT support
the RIS software on Solaris. The "RIS" setup depends heavily on
the "setld" utility, which in turn depends on a mix of tools and
shell libraries and scripts that are installed on a Tru64 UNIX
system when you install the basic system software and the "RIS"
component. Needless to say, that stuff won't be present on your
Solaris system.
He adds that while there is a chance that it might work to create
a similar system on Solaris, but that it's not efficient to do and
using a Tru64 system will be cheaper in any case.
