Thanks to all those people who offered advise including:

david.ross@cantire.com

Despite lots of hacking around with scu and hwmgr it appears that data
isn't readily available anywhere ...
Quoting Alan:

I asked one of the ACS engineers about the serial number
and apparently in some recent versions of ACS, part of
the serial number got added to the "Device Product ID"
space of the sense data. It doesn't say what bits come
from the usual Inquiry data and which from the serial
number. This is a recent change (V87 and maybe later
  V86 patches).

DECevent and CA should be able to do cursory bit to text
of these parts of this data in the host binary event log.
CA doesn't use this data in its rules, since it
  is a new feature.

This information is still not carried around for the
purpose of showing up in a "Show disk" command.

The serial number that I had seen when a device reported an error on the
HSG80 is not exactly what is on the physical drive.
For example I'd seen the following on the HSG80 console:

Device ID: "BF03665223" Device Serial Number: "0PBJ0152"

When the physical drive was examined it had stickers:

DSN: 4W15200PBJ
SER NO: UKA1P1C00PBJ

This appeared to suggest that the serial number might be around
somewhere, however a replacement drive, (a Seagate rather than Fujitsu)
reported the following when installed:

Device ID: "BF03664664" Device Serial Number: "725187Q7"

The actual serial number on the drive bore no resemblance to this number.

Regards,

Rob

Subject: Getting device serial numbers from HSG80

Hi,

Does anyone know of a way of getting the serial numbers of disks in a
HSG80 ?

A show device full from the HSG80 shows the model number but not the
serial number, however I'm pretty sure that the serial number is stored
somewhere, as when a device reports a fault, it does show the serial
number.

Any hints welcomed !

Regards,

Rob Leadbeater
