HSZ controllers and tape drives

Dear All

Is there anyone out there who can help me on a tricky point?

I have a number of HSZ70 and HSZ80 array controllers which are subject to
changing configurations according to circumstances. I also have a number of
TZ89 and TZ90 tape drives in -VW form to go into these arrays. Last week I
had a test where there was an issue regarding the I/O throughput of the
(Dual, with 512Mb cache) HSZ80 array where there were 4x 6x 18Gb RAID 0+1
disks sets and two TZ90s. This was mirrored by a dual HSZ70 array with
identical disk set up, but two TZ89 tape drives. On occasion during the
restore of the system, one, or other, of the tape drives on the HSZ80 was
locked up during high disk I/O periods. The customer in question has
referred the problem to their support company who have turned round saying
that TZ90s are not supported on any HSZ controller, and no tape drives are
supported at all on a HSZ80. I agree with this - according to the HSZ HSOF
SPDs no tapes are supported on HSZ80s and TZ90s are not supported on HSZ70s.
The problem is this; can anyone explain why the setups created have worked
faultlessly on other UNIX, VMS, and NT arrangements? Is it purely something
that can be put down to disk I/O rates?

TIA
