Managers,

    Sorry for the delayed summary, but I was on a well deserved vacation,
after a 16 and a half hour day.

    I'm also a little sorry for bothering you all with this problem. An
HP/Compaq kernel specialist found these little gems in my messages file:

Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: itpsa0 at pci1 slot 5
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: Checksum read error.
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: *** Attempt to run on unsupported adapter
***
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: CAM Subsystem: probe failed
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: hba_dme_attach: (6/n/n) - hba 'itpsa' attach
failed.
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: cam_logger: SCSI event packet
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: cam_logger: bus 6
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: ccfg_simattach()
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: SIM Attach Failed, sim_init() reported
FAILURE - Retry.
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: itpsa_attach_instance: Failure status returned
from xpt_bus_register()
Jun 27 23:27:25 d0olb vmunix: itpsa_confl1: itpsa0 attach failed

    From these messages he termined that the new LVD adapter I'd just
installed, was bad. I've contacted the vendor, who has sent a replacement.
Let's hope this one works... Anyway, thanks for all the help from all those
who responded. My original question and the update is included below.

UNIX is very user friendly, It's just very particular about who it makes
friends with.
