can't 'see' tz89 drives

We have a Personal Workstation 433au with a kzpsa-bb controller
in it. This controller is attached to a tl895 with two tz89 drives in
it.

The machine does not 'see' the tz89 drives although it does see the
'tl810' library. This is both at the rom level where a 'show device'
lists only the robot and also (obviously ?) at the os level.

The machine is running tru64 v5.1

Any ideas/help greatly appreciated ?
