We want to upgrade the X Server from X11R5 to X11R6.x on one
of our old systems. This consists of a Dec 3000 workstation
with 2 ZLXp-E2 graphics cards (PMAGD-BA), running OSF/1
v 3.2D.
I've downloaded the source for X11R6.1 from ftp.x.org, and it all
built without problem. However, when I run the resulting Xdec it
fails to start, giving me the error:
"Could not AddScreen, ID = PMAGD".
Having looked at the source code, I'm guessing that the standard
X Server code only supports the most basic of graphics cards. I
presume it's not as simple as installing a driver - we've already got
the drivers installed and Xdec for X11R5 will still run up.
Is it possible to get a pre-compiled Xdec and the corresponding
X libraries for this version of the operating system that will work
with our graphics cards?
Or is there anything I can do to make it work?
Please note that upgrading the operating system is NOT an option.
