Question concerning missing process or a hanging ps

Admins,

Another issue has popped up here that I have a question on ( please
excuse my submitting two at one time). Has anyone ever seen ps not return a
process that you know is running. In particular, in our caa script, we
have a check for the smon pmon process for oracle. We post the results to
EVM and I can see that it is working. Last night, caa stopped our
production script because it failed to see smon, but our script, in the
first stages of the stop section, mails a complete ps to the sys admin
group. In the ps mailed to us is all of the oracle process. I was informed
that this has happend with other scripts which checked for the oracle
listener. It would work fine for a while then alert us that it was down,
even though people where able to connect remotely to the database. Is this
a known bug?

BTW... I didn't write the script but what I have seen, it should work all of
the time

TIA,

Lee Brewer
