Cluster Alias dependencies

Managers

My question is with regard to Oracle 9i RAC specifically but I think it is
relevant to any multi-instance cluster application.

Is it possible to setup dependencies for nodes to respond to the cluster
alias address ?

The example that I have been asked about specifically : A four node Oracle
9i RAC cluster (Tru64 V5.1A), all four nodes respond to requests from Oracle
clients which are addressed to a cluster alias. If one of these nodes has a
problem and for example a specific Oracle process stops running, the node
will still receive packets sent to the cluster alias but will not be able to
process them due to Oracle malfunctioning - hence the request will need to
be resent.
I guess a 'watchdog' script could be written that checks the processes on
each node and if any of them are missing it removes the node from the
cluster alias, but is there anything built in to the TruCluster software to
create dependencies ?

I hope the above makes sense !!

Regards

Kevin Jones
