Summary: LSM Cloning

I only received one response to this one. Thanks go to Dr. Blinn.

Dr. Thomas Blinn:

I *believe* that LSM now has hooks to support interacting with AdvFS to
better support their interactions. But I'd have to go find the field
test documentation for both, or the design documents, and study them in
detail to be sure. And even if I knew, I couldn't promise you that
what it says on the slide is what will be delivered, because we are
just now getting ready to send the software off to external testing
(at selected customer sites), and someone may uncover a problem that
we can not fix before we have to ship the software later this year.

Mgrs,

I saw the same presentation that Greg Freemyer just posted about. I have a
different question about the same slide. Unfortunately the presenter wasn't
able to shed any light on the topic but maybe the list can.

Does anyone have more details regarding "LSM supports cloned volumes"?

I would guess that it means you can take a byte-for-byte copy of a disk
(like you'd get by using dd to copy the contents of one drive to another)
and have LSM import the cloned volume and mount the contents. I currently
get an error message when LSM starts up saying "dsk23: clone rejected" or
something very similar.

If anyone is interested, the reason I'm asking is that we're an EMC shop and
have implemented EMC Timefinder & SRDF software which does pretty much the
same thing as EVM. It would make my life so much easier to have this
functionality.
