164LX motherboard memory limit (>1GB possible?)

Hi,

we are happily running Tru64 5.0 on an 164LX-based Alpha box, equipped with
1GB (4 x 256MB) of ECC memory. The memory utilization increases rapidly,
this fact brings up the question what the maximum memory limit would be for
the particular board.
As far as we know, 512MB is the official maximum, nevertheless for most
people including us, 1GB configurations work without any problems. Has
anyone ever tried to go higher than this, e.g. 2GB using 4 512MB DIMMs? Is
there any technical fact specific to the 164LX which would prevent this from
working?
