Administrivia: viruses and warnings

The list has recently been the victim not only of e-mail viruses, but
also misdirected automatic virus warnings and discussion and
announcement of the problem by list members.

This is not acceptable.

The virus problem is bad enough with well-meaning human and automated
do-gooders adding to it.

Note that:

(1) Messages to the list are passed through ORNL's virus scanner,
which is updated regularly, but if you continue to use a
vulnerable mail client, we aren't responsible.

(2) Automated virus warnings should *NOT* be sent to the list. They
can be sent to the sender, but they don't belong on the
list. Subscribers whose virus scanners do this are subject to
    immediate removal.

(3) Messages posted by list members about PC viruses posted to the
list are off topic. Offenders will receive one warning before
    being removed from the list.

(4) In the event that something on this topic needs to be sent to the
list, it is the sole responsibility of me, the list
owner. Self-appointed list cops will receive the customary warning
before being removed from the list.

I really hate to be hard-nosed about this, but this is getting out of
hand.
