Thanks to all who replied. Once again the answers started coming in before
my original posting arrived! :-)

The most concise answer came from Bob Vickers:

I looked in some old directories and found a script fragment I used for
repartitioning existing discs, I imagine it is equivalent to what you have:

d=rz9
disklabel -z $d
disklabel -rw -t advfs $d rz28
disklabel -R $d /var/adm/upgrade/$d.layout

One gotcha I remember from installing a new disc on a later occasion was
that the disklabel program did not seem to know about the newest kind of
disc so I had to use the GUI method instead.
