Problems with vrestore?

ES40 running Tru64 5.1 pk4 with single DLT7000 tape drive

Anyone experienced problems with vrestore and backups that span multiple
tapes? It seems that if the backup stays confined to two tapes, I can
pull everything off of any tape. But if the backup spans to a third tape,
I can not pull anything off of any of the tapes? Anyone seen this before?
