A friend of mine has asked me the following:

i think this is due to the color depth, but i'm not sure. It's an Ultra 2
running Solaris 9 and Gnome 2.0. Is there any way of increasing the number of
colors that can be displayed (e.g. from 16 to 256 or 16 million)
