RE: Pre-partitioned disks? Additional clarification

Just to be clear - this is not, in fact a *physical* disk.

This is a logical disk. It is just space that is alocated from an EMC
storage array. So that it makes more sense, pretend the EMC cx600 has 2 Tb.
Of that 2Tb, a 50Gb chuck is carved out, and is exposed to my HBA on my
host. This is *not* a physical disk.

Every time, the space exposed to my hba has partitions already on it that
look like the below. The question is whether those pre-defined partitions
are because of something Sun is doing, or if its something EMC is doing.
The concern is if I set stuff up on this, if somewhere along the way some
day something gets reset somewhere, and suddenly its all automatically
partitioned again. I was fully expecting to see 0,1, and 3-7 completely
blank, and that's what I wanted to see. I'm not seeing that, and I want to
know if its because of sun, or emc :)

Sorry, getting tossed between the two. Yes, I know Sun can pre-partition
physical disks that they send out sometimes. This isn't a physical disk
though :)

I did though find out that there is this awfull "autoconfigure" thing that,
if I remove the partitions, will ominously make partitions just like I'm not
wanting to see. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to turn off that
autoconfiguration...is it in the emulex (hba manufacturer) driver, is it in
the emc software (navisphere?) or is it still a sun thing...
