I've recently pulled a dual differential SCSI adapter from one of my E420s
that wasn't using it, and my goal is to attach a D1000 to my Ultra60.
Following the docs for the card installation, I'm supposed to see the
adapter when I issue a 'probe-scsi-all' from the OBP. The problem is that
I'm not seeing this. When the system runs POST at boot up, it does see the
card during the PCI slot probe and identifies it as 'scsiscsi'. When the
system boots, no new disks are seen as present. And, yes, I did boot with
the reconfigure options ;)
My new concern is maybe the OBP is too old to properly see this SCSI host
card. The current version is "OBP 3.11.25 1998/01/16 12:22" which I know is
seriously out of date. When I try to upgrade the OPB via the flash method,
I'm getting that classic error message (shown below) stating that there are
write-protected sectors in the flash chip. Best I've found from my
searching is to replace the system board to fix this. :(
Has anyone else run across a configuration similar to this and found a
solution. I'd rather not have to replace the system board if there's any
other workaround. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks!
