The application is actually PeopleSoft we have a similar environment
running on a 6800 (4cpu 16gig memory) and everything seems to run
smooth, we later bought a new box now running on a sf15k (8cpu 24gig of
memory) and a job that use to run 8 hours now runs 13-14 hours while
doing some troubling shooting with my DBA's we notice a lot of memory
locking issues I'm not really sure how to tune memory bottle necks we
tried using different SGA size for oracle.. no difference I'm pretty
confident that its not an Oracle issue since we have many test systems
running on non SF15k boxes which is running circles around this machine.
I'm using QFS with qwrite/forcedirectio were pretty sure its not disk
I/O lock attepmts goes way up to about 800/900 locks per second it's the
only real sign of a bottle neck when monitoring this system while the
batch job runs.

I did notice a slight performance gain when bumping up seminfo_semmni to
4096 seems queries ran a lot faster but the over all job still took much
longer than expected.. What puzzles me is the 6800 was using an old
version of Solaris kernel 15 and less memory/cpu but yet the application
runs very solid.. if you can give me any tips or anything else I Can
look at I Would really appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure the locking lies in the Block buffers/db lock hash
latches.

Would it be possible to get some more details on the configuration that
you have set up and on the application that is accessing the database?

Can't promise anything, but we can take a look and see if anything
stands out.

regards,
Fintan
