Permission Denied

1 NIS server - 1 NFS server (Both Ultra 2/Solaris 2.7) at remote location

4 NIS Clients (All Sparc 5/Solaris 2.7)

The four NIS clients started having problems a couple of nights ago
examples below. After a couple of reboots, got two of the four clients
back up and working properly. Two however can't mount a directory from
the NIS auto_direct map.

client1
Apr 7 20:09:17 client1 unix: NFS server servername not responding still
trying
Apr 7 20:09:22 client1 last message repeated 1 time
Apr 7 20:10:45 client1 ypbind[3511]: NIS server not responding for domain
"whatever.com"; still trying

client2
Apr 7 20:09:48 client2 unix: NFS server servername not responding still
trying
Apr 7 20:10:06 client2 last message repeated 1 time
Apr 7 20:10:47 client1 ypbind[3961]: NIS server not responding for domain
"whatever.com"; still trying

My problem now is that two of the clients cannot mount a directory from
the NFS server. The directory in question is in the auto_direct NIS map.
Example error messages:

        client1> cd /dir
        ksh: /dir: permission denied

        In /var/adm/messages
Apr 8 07:22:46 client1 automountd[157]: server nfsserver not responding
Apr 8 07:25:47 client1 last message repeated 3 times

Swapped Ethernet jacks and machines that can mount the directory can also
mount it from the same jacks the machines that cannot mount it from.
Network folks say there have been no changes.

I thought this was a network problem, but now I'm thinking it's a NIS
problem.

Hope this makes sense, if you need more info please ask.

How should I troubleshoot this????

TIA
