DNS wierdness

Hello list,
I need some advice.
I have a Solaris machine (running 5.8 and the latest x86 Recommended
from sunsite). In it I have my /etc/resolv.conf looking like this.

        domain domain.com
        search domain.com
        search my.domain.com
        nameserver 10.10.10.2
        nameserver 43.62.x.4
        nameserver 10.10.10.3
        nameserver 43.62.x.5

What's weird is that I can only resolve my private side stuff. I have
two private side DNS servers that only host the internal domain. They
do NOT cache root servers. So I also have some public side DNS servers
to resolve internet address. I can swap the private and public ip
positions in the file and then I CAN get to the public side (i.e. I can
resolve internet address all day long), but I CAN'T resolve private side
then. I have been under the impression that when a query fails on a
server it will move to query the next server in line. I am wondering if
anyone has experienced this problem and if so have ever found a fix.
I've not attempted a real extensive search on the web for such a
problem. So I might come up with it yet, but I thought I'd check with
the community here. Idunno maybe a patch in the cluster did something?
Thanks in advance for any help.
