Thank you is advance for your attention to this matter. In keeping with
the list style, please email me directly with recommendations /
questions and if there is interest, I will summarize to the list.
Background:
Recently I inherited a Solaris 2.6 server running Netscape Messaging
Server 4.15 and I am unable to access the native console. This is a
secondary SMTP / ldap server that process messages for a small
department. The system is still processing ldap requests and email
messages are being routed. Unfortunately, in the last month, something
happened so that I am now unable to access the console (startconsole).
Process:
The command is entered as such:
startconsole -u admin -a http://server.foliofn.com:9999
The login dialog box is presented to the user.
When the incorrect password is entered into the dialog box, as expected
the application responds with an error message indicating the problem.
When the correct password is entered into the dialog box, an unexpected
error is presented. The application responds with the message
"Cannot connect to the directory server:
netscape.ldap.LDAPException: error result (49);Invalid credentials"
There seems to be nothing logged in the error or access files.
We have followed all the usual diagnostics and information sources but
can not find any recommendations to resolve this problem.
My question is multiple parts:
1) Is there a quick solution to gain console access?
2) Who owns / supports this product: AOL, Sun, iplanet?
3) What is the recommended upgrade / replacement path?
