You very definitely want to use the latest version instead - 1.2.1.
There were a number of important changes after 1.0.6. Please check out
the 1.2.1 release announcement at

Do the upgrade and try again. The interoperability problems should

You should try the gpg mailing list for this kind of question; you'll
probably get a better answer.
However, I'd suggeste using gpg with "-v" and look at the verbose
information for better clues. There are a wide range of things that
could be wrong and without knowing how you generated your keys, it's
hard to really offer any good suggestions. Do you have a transscript of
the command that gives you the error?
You might also want to try upgrading to the current version of gpg which
offers a bunch of new features. You need to be aware that the format for
keyrings changed in version 1.2.0 and once you convert a keyring from
1.0.7 to version 1.2, it can't be converted back.
