Whoa, what a response !
It seems everybody in the world except me knew that "getent" is the right
tool for this. Some of you told me politely; some of you, well ... ! :-)
Of late, I have been working mostly on HP where order of 'hosts' *does
matter* in /etc/nsswitch.conf file.
Some of you suggested why I can't put these entries in the DNS. Its because
I am not authoritative for their domain and for some reason, my DNS server
is unable to resolve a particular host. I was thinking if I could put this
host in my /etc/hosts, things would work.
