Swap Space

We are having a lively debate concerning the amount of swap space to
allocate on large systems. We are starting to get systems with 16 or 32GB of
RAM, but do we need to allocate that much swap space. The classic rule was
to configure 2x the amount of physical memory, but that could mean 64GB of
swap !!
All documents on this subject always relate to much smaller or older
systems, is there a definative answer to this one? All opinions welcome...

Thanks
