Problems mounting metatrans from Solaris 8 on Solaris 2.6

Hello all.

We are performing a BCV Timefinder backup of a very large UFS file system
(550GB) of a Solaris 8 system. The backup system is EMC's EDM, which runs
Solaris 2.6.

To allow fast mounting of the BCV on the EDM for copying it to tape, we've
choosen to use SDS with a trans device, in order to avoid fscking this file
system. Problem is, whenever we try to mount the trans from Solaris 8 onto
Solaris 2.6, it crashes the EDM badly. Right now, our only option is fscking
the BCV volumes every time we back up, and even this sometimes leaves us with
a completely void file system (without even "." or "..") after hours of
fscking.

Has someone experienced something like this? Convert the file system to VXFS
is not a solution.

TIA,
