hardware array + soft partitions

We are going to deploy hardware array (3310) as a storage for
Oracle RDBMS. I want to divide the array into smaller pieces and
then newfs and mount them using different options/parameters for
different types of oracle's files (indexes, logs, table spaces etc).
There are two options:
1. divide at hardware level
2. divide at software level (SVM of Solaris 9) using soft partitions

If I decide to go 2. way I will have ability to grow each partition
(what is important for me) but I don't know if I hit performance degradation.
I haven't used soft partitions so far and don't know what an impact
they have on performance.

What do you recommend to do ?
