Hi !
I have an E450 (4x480Mhz/4GB RAM) running Solaris 9. The server will be
mainly a Samba and NFS server handling a large number of small files (aprox.
50 million of 30kb on average file size.
The system has a Sun Gigabit Ethernet interface which shall be used for
backup. I will configure 2 other interfaces to provide file sharing services
in 2 different networks. I have a number of different Fast Ethernet cards in
the system:
1 x hme (Fast Ethernet onboard)
4 x qfe (from a Sun qfe card)
2 x ce (from a Gigaswift card, also containing 2 LVD SCSI interfaces) This
interface also support Gigabit Ethernet over copper, but I do not have a
switch with Gigabit Eternet on copper.
1 ge interface on multimode fiber (this will be used solely for backup)
Here it comes the question:
What is your experience with the interfaces above? Which one is better?
(Especially in terms of CPU overhead to drive the interface)
I'm also considering IPMP, but I need more time to complete the tests and
I'll not be ready by the time I'll go live with this server.
What are your experiences with IPMP ?
