Newbie-ish question Reconfiguring Kernel parameters

Greetings Group,

I am in the process of configuring an E250/Solaris 8 for Oracle 9 (my
first time). I am at the stage in which I am supposed to change the
kernel parameter settings(also my first time). The instructions are so
simple...but I am missing something.

Both the Oracle pdf and Solaris 8 Sys Admin volume 3 say the same thing
about it:
1. Make a backup of /etc/system
2. set module:symbol=value
3. Reboot.

I have also read the man pages for system(4) and come away with little
of value.

I am supposed to set SEMMNI, SEMMNS, SEMMSI, SHMMAX, SHMMIN, SHMMNI, and
SHMSEG

I don't know or yet understand what part of the set command those
parameters are. Are they the module or the symbol?

What I get on reboot is:
"sorry, variable 'semmni' is not defined in the 'kernel'" and so on for
the other parameters.

I am confused!

Thanks,
Kevin
