I am currently investigating which software to use to backup the following
:
Sun Microsystems servers :
2 E220R , each 2GB RAM , 2*450 MHz processors
1 E420R , 2.5GB RAM , 4 * 450MHz processors
3 A1000 arrays attached to the above
1 E450 , 4 processors , about 200GB of storage
1 Blade 1000
The above running Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 8
We have a single DLT7000 non-autoloading drive , and a single L280 DLT
drive ( with 6 slot
autoloader ) at our main site.
At a secondary site we have ab Ultra 5 , Solaris 8 with DLT7000
non-autoloading drive
We run Oracle 8.1.7 ( currently doing hot backups via scripting/archive
logging, 'alter database begin backup .. )
also run Ingres II - 'checkpoint' hot backups done to disk then copied to
tape
We have a data-warehousing server ( Dell ) running Windows 2000
Currently we backup the Sun machines via cronned scripts using 'ufsdump'
In total we use about 500GB of storage.
I would be interested in hearing about 'real-world' experiences regarding
ease of implementation
of backup solutions and quality of support provided by backup software
suppliers
Thanks in advance
