Gurus,

Thank you to all who responded. My situation has been resolved and I am
greatly appreciative. This list is such an incredible resource of talent.
Below is my original post. I received a couple of different solutions to
this problem. The most popular was the following:

Before trying to boot from cdrom, try adding the following line to root's
.exrc file...
set dir=/tmp
you will have to use a command like:
# echo "set dir=/tmp" >>.exrc
This should change the directory from /var/tmp to /tmp

I did not use this approach. I used the following:

1. Put in Solaris disk 1 of 2.
2. Go to OK prompt.
3. run OK> boot cdrom -s
Once in single user mode run the following:
4. fsck -y /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 (only run this if the bottom steps don't
work at first)
5. TERM=sun; export TERM
6. mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
7. edit /a/etc/vfstab and correct your errors.

This worked for me and I was able to make the necessary changes and get my
system to boot. Again... thank you all for your assistance. I don't even
want to think about what I'd be doing if everyone didn't save my arse!!!
