netra T1 105 and D1000 - cannot see disks

Greetings,

I have a netra T1 105 running OE 9 with the latest patch cluster, and a
D1000 that I would really like to use with the netra. I have the x6541a
card installed in the pci slot of the netra, and a terminator for the
D1000. The option switches on the back of the D1000 are set to factory
defaults. Before installing the x6541a, probe-scsi-all returned

/pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/scsi@2

it then listed the 2 internal drives in the netra.

After installing the x6541a and boot -r, probe-scsi-all returned

/pci@1f,0/pci@1/pci@1/scsi1@f,1
/pci@1f,0/pci@1/pci@1/scsi1@f
/pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/scsi@2

and it again listed the 2 internal drives in the netra.

However, no amount of boot -r, devfsadm, or anything else is allowing
me to see any of the drives in the D1000. They seem to be there - at
least the green led on the front edge of the box comes on for each bay
where there is a drive.

I've tried a few variations on cabling with channel a vs channel b on
the x6541a, and scsi a vs scsi b on the D1000, and even changing the
option setting on the D1000 to spin the disks up at power up, all to no
avail.

Any and all help to convince this setup to work would be greatly
appreciated. I will of course summarize.

thanks,

dave
